Installation
This guide walks you through installing and configuring All Writer.
Tip: You can also use the web app with no install. Core editing and AI workflows are shared, while web uses cloud sync and desktop is better for local/offline writing.
System requirements
Minimum
- OS: Windows 10 (1903) or later, x64
- RAM: 4 GB
- Disk: ~1 GB free (app ~10 MB + data)
Recommended
- OS: Windows 11
- RAM: 8 GB or more
- Display: 1920×1080 or higher
Not supported: Windows 7/8/8.1, 32-bit systems.
Download and install
1. Download
Get the Windows installer from the Download page (~10 MB).
2. Run the installer
If SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”:
- Click More info
- Click Run anyway
This happens because the app is not yet signed with a Microsoft certificate; a cert is planned.
3. Wizard steps
- Welcome → Next
- License → accept → I agree
- Install folder (default:
C:\Program Files\All Writer\) - Start menu folder
- Optional: desktop shortcut, quick launch, PATH
- Install → Finish
First launch
Open from the desktop shortcut, Start menu, or AllWriter.exe.
Initial wizard
Language
- Simplified Chinese
- English
- Match system language
All Writer supports full Chinese/English UI.
Data location
- Default:
C:\Users\<you>\Documents\All Writer\ - Or pick another folder (including synced folders).
Account (optional)
- Register now — email + password; new users may receive starter balance.
- Skip — full offline editing; sign in later for AI features.
AI features require a signed-in account; plain editing works offline.
Suggested settings
General: font (e.g. Segoe UI 14px), theme (system/light/dark), auto-save (~30s).
AI: pick model, temperature, response length—see AI assistant.

Troubleshooting
| Issue | What to try |
|---|---|
| Defender deletes the installer | Add exclusion for the file or folder |
| Permission error | Run installer as administrator |
| Install hangs | Pause AV, clear %temp%, re-download |
| Crash on start | Update GPU driver, install VC++ Redistributable, Windows Update |
| Slow start | Free disk space, close background apps, reboot |
Updates
The app checks for updates on launch; you can also use Help → Check for updates.
Uninstall
Settings → Apps → All Writer → Uninstall, or re-run the installer and choose uninstall.
Document data under Documents\All Writer\ is not removed automatically. Config may remain under %AppData% / %LocalAppData%—delete only if you intend to wipe data.
